Muckamore Cricket Club is proud to announce its partnership with NOW Group to implement the JAM Card initiative, making it the first cricket club in Northern Ireland to do so. This significant step reaffirms the club’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all members and visitors feel welcome and supported.
The JAM Card (Just A Minute) is a discreet tool that allows people with learning difficulties, autism, or communication barriers to signal that they need a little extra time or patience in social situations. By embracing this initiative, Muckamore Cricket Club aims to create a more inclusive environment by providing staff training to develop a greater understanding of accessibility for all.
Neil Gill, Inclusion Convenor at Muckamore Cricket Club emphasised the impact of the initiative:
“We are delighted to introduce the JAM Card at our club. Cricket is a sport for everyone, and this initiative ensures that individuals who may require additional support feel comfortable and respected within our club environment. By being the first cricket club in Northern Ireland to adopt this, we hope to set an example for others to follow.”
The NOW Group, a social enterprise supporting individuals with disabilities and communication barriers, has been instrumental in promoting the JAM Card across various sectors. Brian Mallen, Business Development Manager at NOW Group, highlighted the importance of the collaboration:
“We are thrilled to work with Muckamore Cricket Club in bringing the JAM Card to the cricketing community. This initiative demonstrates a real commitment to inclusion and understanding. Sport should be a space where everyone feels welcome, and Muckamore is leading the way in ensuring that individuals with communication barriers have the support they need.”
By implementing the JAM Card initiative, Muckamore Cricket Club aims to break down barriers, ensure inclusivity, and set a new standard for accessibility in sports clubs across Northern Ireland. The club encourages other organisations to follow suit and create a more understanding and supportive environment for all members.
