MUCKAMORE CRICKET

The wet weather during last week severely hampered the preparation of the

wicket at Moylena. The soggy conditions prevented the groundsmen from

carrying out their usual meticulous work in preparing the wicket for Saturday’s

game. A wicket was eventually prepared but despite the best efforts and on such

a bright sunny warm day the surface was considered too soft and dangerous to

play on and the vital relegation game against Instonians was cancelled. This

Saturday the Firsts travel to play Carrickfergus and will play another vital

relegation game against rivals Lisburn on Sunday at Moylena.

Muckamore Seconds travelled to Shaw’s Bridge on Saturday to play Instonians

Seconds in their next league match. Muckamore batted first and were bowled

out for only 109 runs with veteran Leslie Allen top scoring with 40 runs. Best of

the Instonians bowlers were U Minhas, who took 3 wickets for 21 runs, S

McIlwaine who took 2 wickets for 18 runs and J Rose who took 2 wickets for

35 runs. Instonians replied to pass the Muckamore total and win the game by

two wickets. Their top batsman was C Beattie who was not out with 38 runs.

Best of the Muckamore bowlers were Chinmey Dakahne who took 3 wickets for

9 runs and Michael Wilson who took 2 wickets for 16 runs. This week the

Seconds are at home to Carrickfergus Seconds in their next league game.

Muckamore Thirds entertained Ballymena Seconds at Moylena on Saturday in

their next league game. Ballymena batted first and only managed to score 70

runs against the very tight Muckamore bowling. Their top batsmen were J

Martin who scored 17 runs and veteran Harry Cooke who scored 10 runs. Best

of the Muckamore bowlers were David Cardwell who took 2 wickets for 9 runs,

Peter Heyburn and Gajanan Talwekar who both took 2 wickets for 12 runs and

Mark McNeill who took 2 wickets for 25 runs. The first three Muckamore

batsmen were back in the pavilion with only 11 runs on the scoreboard before

Pavan Kumar came to the rescue. He aggressively attacked the Ballymena

bowling striking 3x4s and 4x6s to score 42 runs to help take his team’s score to

54 runs before he top edged the ball high into the air to be caught by the

wicketkeeper. Then the remaining batsmen Trevor Barnett, Peter Heyburn,

Joanne Davis and David Cardwell scrambled the remaining 17 runs needed to

clinch the very valuable three wicket victory to keep the team in the race to

avoid relegation. This Saturday the Thirds travel to play league leaders CIYMS

Thirds for their next game.

Muckamore Fourths travelled to Stormont on Saturday to play CSNI Fourths in

their next league match. The home team batted first and scored 145 runs for 8

wickets in their allocated overs. Their top batsman was R Hunter who scored 33

runs. Best of the Muckamore bowlers were Sunson Stephenson who took 3

Muckamore Fifths had Dundrum Seconds as the visitors to Moylena on Sunday

in a league match. The visitors batted first and were bowled out in 21 overs for

only 81 runs. Their top batsmen were R Phillips who scored 20 runs and K

Butler who scored 17 runs. Best of the Muckamore bowlers were Chaitanya

Rane who took 4 wickets for 5 runs and Jude Keates who took 3 wickets for 10

they remained unbeaten to pass the Dundrum total in just 14 overs to give their
